ABOUT CAMPER

History

The history of the appearance of teardrop-shaped campers dates back to the 1930s, first appearing in the United States. There are several versions of the appearance of this fantastically convenient vehicle, beginning with the evolution of a horse cart before the Great Depression in the US, when the poor who were forcedly evicted from their homes lived in such trailers and moved around the states in search of work. But we'll tell you a more plausible version of the origin of "teardrop" (drops) - these trailers are called in their homeland, in the US.

In March 1939 in the magazine "Popular Mechanics" were published drawings of Louis Rogers, who made a teardrop-shaped camper for his honeymoon.

Later, in 1945, Bill Worman and Andy Anderson created their own company, Kit Manufacturing Manufacture, to produce kit kits (kits that people had to assemble themselves) for the assembly of these wonderful trailers, however, because people did not yet understand everything Charms and amenities of this unfamiliar vehicle for them, they did not have sales.

It was at this moment, One of Andy Anderson's friends, Den Pospaty bought from him his share, for $ 800. They improved the design and bet on their production. The first show was held in Los Angeles, at the stadium Gilmour. They brought 12 ready-made trailers there, and more than 500 orders were taken away! People paid a premium to get their trailers out of turn.

By the middle of 1946, a second door, a butane slab, a 40-gallon tank and mudguards had been added to the camper's construction. Sales became crazy, production worked in 2 shifts, the company sold 40 trailers a day. In total for 1946-1947year was sold 4,500 small cottages on wheels.

So-drop-shaped camper conquered America!
